June & July Newsletter
What a great day of worship we shared this past Sunday as our Chancel Choir along with members of our congregation helped us celebrate our faith with Hymns! Thank you to the choir for their beautiful music making, to the quartet that blessed us with the Hymn medley and to everyone who shouted out a Hymn for us to sing together! It was a wonderful day of worship in the house of the Lord!
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
The Youth BBQ sale and Cake Auction was a great success! We thank everyone who stopped by to enjoy the delicious BBQ and all of the yummy cake donations. We raised over $4500, and of that total the cake auction brought in $1900! Many thanks to everyone that worked so hard and came out to support our youth mission trips.
Make plans to join us at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 28th as we celebrate Memorial Day Sunday. The Chancel Choir and soloist will be singing Hymns of the Faith. Members of the congregation will also be able to select a few of your favorite hymns.
Following the concert, barbecue and all the fixings on the grounds will be served and afterwards we will enjoy our annual cake auction to help raise money for our youth mission trip. Everyone bring your best cake to enter in the auction; it’s going to be a lot of fun!
Holy Week is such a special week in the life of the church! On Wednesday, April 12, please plan to join us as we journey towards the cross as we remember the final week of the earthly life of Jesus. We will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a covered dish dinner. Bring your favorite dish(es) to share. (The Church will provide the meat.)
Following a time of fellowship around tables in the Fellowship Hall, we will read scripture passages that will remind us of the sacrifice Jesus made for us because of the incredible love God has for His children. We will then experience foot washing (optional) before partaking of The Lord’s Supper. Please join us as we journey together to the cross!
The Board of Christian Education is excited to announce that Rev. Dr. Guy Sayles will be leading us in our Lenten Study entitled Praying Our Brokenness and Opening to Grace on Thursdays: March 9, March 16, March 23, and March 30. Make plans to join us in the Fellowship Hall for a light lunch at noon followed by the study. You won’t want to miss it!
January & February Newsletter
January is an excellent time to join the choir! After a brief hiatus, the Chancel Choir will resume rehearsals on Wednesday, January 4 at 6:30 p.m. We will begin rehearsals of the music we will be singing for Palm Sunday.
Please pray about how God might want you to use your musical gifts to praise and glorify Him! If you would like to join us, please let Sharon Welsch know. We’ll have a choir robe and folder ready for you! As an old Appalachian Mountain song says “All God’s children got a place in the choir!’
Read The Bible Through In 2017! When was the last time you spent time reading the Bible through? Most of us have read the Bi-ble through at one time or another. (In 2010 we read the New Testament as a part of our Lenten meditations.) The Board of Christian Education would like to invite our congregation to make a commitment to reading the Bible through chronologically in 2017. This means reading the Bible in the order scholars believe it was written. It really is fascinating! We hope you will consider making this one of your New Year’s resolutions! A copy of the readings is available at the exits of the Sanctuary or by going on-line to our website www.marshillbc.org.
Examples of How Your Gifts Further God’s Kingdom
Your financial support helps so many programs within our church. The 2017 budget has been approved; let’s continue to give glory to God by being generous in our giving! Within our budget are the following categories with a brief description of how these funds benefit each:
Make plans now to be here for our 160th anniversary on Sunday, October 9, 2016. Rev. Dr. Chuck Bugg will be here to pro-claim God’s word, a special “word” will be shared by some of our senior adults. Carol James, percussionist extraordinaire and the Low Brass from Mars Hill University will be here to play for us and bless us with wonderful music as they accompany the choir in a new anthem that will set your toes to tapping! We hope you will be a part of this very special day!
