Dear Sweet Friends,
Words cannot express our most sincere appreciation for your love and support of the music ministry at Mars Hill Baptist Church. Your overwhelming support allowed us to purchase a new piano for the Choir Room! It has already been delivered and we are using it for choir rehearsals and piano lessons; it is WONDERFUL!
Please come by the choir room to see our newest addition and praise God with us for this incredible gift of love from Him and from all of you! We are humbly thankful for your support and loving kindness. May this gift help us to prepare for worship and sing to the glory of God and may it remind us of a loving church family, whom we love very much and who help inspire us to "sing unto God"!
With humbly grateful and joyful hearts,
Sharon Welsch and the Chancel and Children's Choirs
500th ANNIVERSARY OF THE REFORMATION
During the month of October we will be celebrating the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation. Leaders like Martin Luther and John Calvin spearheaded a movement that transformed the Church and eventually led to the emergence of Protestant denominations that exist today.
Why is this important to us? Without the Reformation there would be no Baptist Church! The Reformers were guided by the conviction that the church of that day had moved away from the original teachings of Christ, especially with regard to what it was teaching about salvation, (how people can be forgiven of sin through the death, and resurrection of Jesus, and how one receives eternal life with God). The Reformers sought to reset Christian beliefs based on the original message of Jesus and the early church.
WORSHIP BAGS AVAILABLE
We are excited to announce that worship bags are available for children who are remaining in worship (grades 2 and above). We request that bags be left on the hooks in the coat closet in the vestibule each Sunday and picked up prior to worship.
The Board of Christian Education is asking all church members to consider bringing an item to place in the bags (24 bags). As we promised this past Sunday, please help us “welcome” our children as they worship with us.
A NEW PIANO
After many faithful years of service, our choir room piano needs to be replaced. With the blessing of the Board of Finance and the Board of Trustees, the Board of Music and Worship is asking the congregation to help us raise $5,000 for a new Yamaha piano. We begin this project this coming Sunday, September 3! Will you please help us “build” a piano?
Outside the choir room there is a keyboard that will be filled with piano keys as they are purchased so that you can see our progress. Would you purchase a piano key? The cost is $50 per key. The Board of Music and Worship thanks you forfinancially supporting this effort! And ALL our choirs are most appreciative!
Promotion Sunday for our children’s Sunday School Classes is Sunday, August 27th. During the last fifteen minutes of class those students who will be changing classes will go to their new classroom to meet their teacher. This is a very special day so we hope our children will come and meet their teachers. Don’t forget this is a great time of the year to get involved in Sunday School! We encourage all our parents and children to get involved in learning God’s word as we begin new school year!
CHILDREN’S CHURCH GRADUATION
On Sunday, August 27th during the Children’s Sermon, those children who have entered2nd grade (and higher) will lead the congregation in “The Lord’s Prayer”. These children will be graduating from Children Church and will be staying to worship with us. Special worship bags will be available to our graduating class! What a special day! Make plans to join us!
JOIN THE CHURCH SUNDAY
Tommy has been preaching on the book of Acts throughout the summer. We have read about those who were moved to join the church in mass! At the end of worship on Sunday, August 27th, we invite anyone who has been thinking about joining the church to “come on down!” Several of our children have expressed an interest in becoming a Christian and there are some adults who would like to join us here at Mars Hill Baptist, too! If you have been thinking about making a profession of faith or moving your membership, this might be just the opportunity you have been looking for! What a glorious day this will be!
June & July Newsletter
What a great day of worship we shared this past Sunday as our Chancel Choir along with members of our congregation helped us celebrate our faith with Hymns! Thank you to the choir for their beautiful music making, to the quartet that blessed us with the Hymn medley and to everyone who shouted out a Hymn for us to sing together! It was a wonderful day of worship in the house of the Lord!
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
The Youth BBQ sale and Cake Auction was a great success! We thank everyone who stopped by to enjoy the delicious BBQ and all of the yummy cake donations. We raised over $4500, and of that total the cake auction brought in $1900! Many thanks to everyone that worked so hard and came out to support our youth mission trips.
Make plans to join us at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 28th as we celebrate Memorial Day Sunday. The Chancel Choir and soloist will be singing Hymns of the Faith. Members of the congregation will also be able to select a few of your favorite hymns.
Following the concert, barbecue and all the fixings on the grounds will be served and afterwards we will enjoy our annual cake auction to help raise money for our youth mission trip. Everyone bring your best cake to enter in the auction; it’s going to be a lot of fun!
Holy Week is such a special week in the life of the church! On Wednesday, April 12, please plan to join us as we journey towards the cross as we remember the final week of the earthly life of Jesus. We will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a covered dish dinner. Bring your favorite dish(es) to share. (The Church will provide the meat.)
Following a time of fellowship around tables in the Fellowship Hall, we will read scripture passages that will remind us of the sacrifice Jesus made for us because of the incredible love God has for His children. We will then experience foot washing (optional) before partaking of The Lord’s Supper. Please join us as we journey together to the cross!
The Board of Christian Education is excited to announce that Rev. Dr. Guy Sayles will be leading us in our Lenten Study entitled Praying Our Brokenness and Opening to Grace on Thursdays: March 9, March 16, March 23, and March 30. Make plans to join us in the Fellowship Hall for a light lunch at noon followed by the study. You won’t want to miss it!
